Michelle leigh author

Where are you from?
I have lived in Arizona for most of my life so that’s where I consider myself from.

Tell us your latest news.
I'm working on the third, and final novel, in the Surviving series. This one focuses on Danny and Samantha's relationship as we watch it develop.

When and why did you begin writing?
I’ve always loved to write and have started so many books that I never finished I couldn’t even count them. With this book I loved where it was going and wanted to see where the end took me.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Not until I saw my book for sale on Amazon….but even now I’m hesitant to label myself as a writer. It’s all still so new to me.

What inspired you to write your first book?
As weird as this sounds, I couldn’t find anything to read one day so I decided to write what I wanted to read.

Do you have a specific writing style?
My writing style is very organic…I don’t plot out what I want to see happen, I just let it come and then edit and re-edit until it makes sense and sounds the way it sounds in my head.

How did you come up with the title of your first novel?
From one of my favorite passages in the book:

“So what did you and your brother do when you left?” Trace’s quietly asked question brings me back from my memories.

“We survived. We did what we had to do for as long as we had to do it and we survived.”

Do you see writing as a career?
I see writing as a pleasure and something that I can do in addition to my career and family. A career is something you have to work at; writing is something I love to do.

What was the hardest part of writing your books?
The editing. It is so difficult to look at the manuscript you write with a critical eye and delete stuff that you thought was wonderful only to see it as unnecessary information that doesn’t progress the plot of the story

What are you working on now?
I just finished a contemporary young adult novel which I'm considering self-publishing. I've been researching the pros and cons and it seems beneficial to self-publish as long as you put in the effort of perfecting the manuscript first. I'm also finishing the final book in the Surviving series and I've started another adult romance novel that I'm very excited about.
